INVESTOR VISA

EXTENSION OF INVESTOR VISA

Extension of Investor Visa

You may be able to extend your Tier 1 (Investor) visa.

For one to qualify for an extension will depend on their initial visa. Before 6 November 2014, between 6 November 2014 and 28 March, or after 29 March 2019.

You will also need to add any dependents on your current visa, including children who have turned 18 during your stay.

You can apply for a UK Investor visa extension any time before the expiry of your leave, although it is recommended to apply not more than one month before your current leave expires.

Extension for visas granted before 6 November 2014

The visa extension date for those granted before 6 November 2014 closed on 6 April 2020, but these are what they need to satisfy:

  • Have at least £1,000,000 under your control in the UK. The money can be your own or your partner’s money. The funds can also be loaned to you by a UK regulated financial institution if you have personal assets with a value of £2,000,000 or more.
  • Have invested at least £ 750,000 of that in the UK government bonds, share capital or loan capital in active UK companies.
  • Invested this sum within three months of your investor start date.
  • Have maintained the level of investment for the whole of the remaining period of your leave.

Extension for visas granted on or after 6 November 2014

If you invested in UK Government bonds, you would need to submit your Tier 1 Investor visa application before 6 April 2023. You can also apply for an extension after 6 April 2023 if you move your qualifying investments out of UK Government bonds.

  • Have at least £2,000,000 under your control in the UK.
  • You must have invested the total amount made up of your own or your partner’s money.
  • Have invested those funds in share capital or loan capital in the active UK registered companies.
  • Invested this sum within three months of your investor start date.
  • Have maintained the level of investment for the whole of the remaining period of your leave.

One can also apply to extend their visa if they successfully applied before 29 March 2019, and you invested your funds in UK government bonds.

The Home Office should generally give a response within eight weeks of your extension application date. Apply for an extension of stay as a UK Investor via priority service and receive a decision on your extension application within five working days of your UKVCAS appointment.

The exact requirements you will need to satisfy will vary depending on your circumstances and the route you apply under.
